Waiting for Sunset

I worked on the coast for a few days this week.  It's good to get away from the big city and have a change of scenery every so often.  Here is the anticipation of a beach sunset.

Don't Rain on my Parade!

This photo gives the impression that in Oregon we sometimes make our own rain.  I was looking through some older photos last night and thought I would post these from July 4th a couple of years ago. Since the holiday is coming in only a couple of weeks, it was fun to look back at some past photos.  This is the annual small-town parade in Rockaway at the coast.

A Small Slice of Americana

One more photo from the weekend at the coast.  After I found the ice cream I passed by this Saturday night event which probably happens in thousands of small towns around the country. The room was packed as were all the nearby parking spots.  It was a quaint scene of fellowship and old fashioned entertainment; a small slice of Americana.

Dos Rocas

Friday night after my wife and I arrived at the coast we decided to have dinner at a small Mexican restaurant in the heart of Rockaway Beach.  It's called Dos Rocas, which means the two rocks.  Just off shore are two big rocks that crop out of the water called Twin Rocks, thus the name Dos Rocas.

The sun was low on the horizon and shining through the front of the restaurant.  I thought the shadow on the wall was interesting.  Despite the fact that you don't see anyone else in the place the food was great and the portions were big. We walked out of there feeling like Dos Rocas!

Lake House

We were at the coast again this weekend. This shot was taken Saturday morning looking west on Smith Lake south of Rockaway Beach. After I got out of the car to take some photos a frog started croaking in the foreground. Soon another one started, then another and within a few minutes about four of them treated me to a concert.

Warm sand on your feet, fresh air to breath, the sound of waves breaking on the shore, and maybe a little sand in your cuffs.  A great day at the beach!

Twin Rocks Sunset

"Sail-gull"

When we were at the coast this last weekend we took a walk on the beach with our son and his family. The wind was blowing hard against our backs as we walked north along the shore. This seagull was flying against the wind and basically "floating".  He was gently flapping his wings but kind of in neutral. Soon after the shot above he crossed over in front of us and floated closer on the right. I managed to get a shot but it has a slight blur. In the G10's LCD it looked great but Photoshop revealed the truth. The longer I look at it though the more it seems like a painting.

We spent the weekend at the coast. Saturday our son and daughter-in-law and the kids came over for the afternoon. We took a walk on the beach and made some interesting discoveries including this marine snail who came complete with his own raft.
