"Sail-gull"

When we were at the coast this last weekend we took a walk on the beach with our son and his family. The wind was blowing hard against our backs as we walked north along the shore. This seagull was flying against the wind and basically "floating".  He was gently flapping his wings but kind of in neutral. Soon after the shot above he crossed over in front of us and floated closer on the right. I managed to get a shot but it has a slight blur. In the G10's LCD it looked great but Photoshop revealed the truth. The longer I look at it though the more it seems like a painting.

  1. This is my first visit to you blog. I took a few minutes to look through and enjoy many of your photos. Very nice job on these. Love the seagulls. There is something about their contrasting colors and their grace in flight that makes them an ideal subject and so fun to shoot and to view the results. I'll be back.

  2. It's fun to watch gulls floating on the air currants, isn't it? I did that a few weeks ago down at the beach here. Have a great day!

    Stacey,
Wouldn't it be neat to fly like that just once! Hope you had a good restful time at the beach. Have a great day!

  5. Thanks Roy! On the waves in the back you can see the wind blowing the spray off the top of the crest. :)
