Vista House at Crown Point

Today I worked in the Columbia River Gorge, one of Oregon's favorite natural attractions.  This is Vista House which overlooks the Gorge at Crown Point.  The river separates Oregon and Washington.  The Gorge has some of the most amazing cliffs that were formed long ago.  It's described as a "spectacular geological wonder".

The building has been a landmark and visitor spot since 1918.

Because of the natural funnel-effect that the Gorge makes, it's generally windy and it was very windy at the Vista House today.  My plan was to take some shots for HDR images but it was too windy for a tripod.  That will have to be on my to-do list.

  1. Ron and I visited the Gorge a week or so ago. Car not bikes. There was almost no wind that day, and not one windsurfer to be seen.

Nice monochromes of Vista House. I especially like the second one. Nice details in the light and shadows. And a very stately composition. I've been wanting to try some HDR as well.

  2. Kari,
That's great that you and Ron made it to the Gorge. I think that's unusual for no wind. Yesterday as I was heading to Hood River the bike was getting tossed around pretty good, or I should say bad. You never know what to expect there! Thank you!

  3. For all the times I have been through the Gorge area, I don't know why I have never stopped at this place. Terrific shots of a magnificent area.

It's got the feel of "Europe" to it.
Not that I've ever been there of course.. ;o)

  5. Sue - You'll have to make this on your next visit. Thank you!

Stacey - I haven't thought of it being like Europe. I haven't been there either but you're right, it could be. Thank you!
