Building or Rocket Ship?

Smith Tower Apartments is a Vancouver, WA. landmark with unusual architecture. It's near the Columbia River and is visible when crossing the Interstate Bridge from Oregon on I-5.

Built in 1966, each retirement apartment must have a nice view.

  2. I've always wondered if the units are pie shaped. Interestingly, I was right across the freeway from there today. We had a meeting at the Veteran's Hospital in Vancouver at 11 and then took a guy to lunch.

  3. Stacey & Dan,
I've sold to this place for almost 8 years and I've never been in an apartment. I should ask to see a vacant one when one comes available. The two elevators travel up the center and each floor has a circular hall around the elevator tunnel and the apartments are around the edge of the hall. I'll bet they do have sort of a pie shape.

  4. I like the composition of the bottom photo best. If I had a yen to live in a large city, a building like this would be fun.

  5. The apartments are pie-shaped. I'm moving into one in a couple of weeks - 9th floor. I can't wait. Won't see it until I move in, but am looking forward to moving to Vancouver from Glendale, AZ.
